there were at least 6 chopped “el camino” cars of various makes. Most with plywood cab backs. I find them fairly frequently.

There’s one of these car farms about 40 km away from me...many apparently decent cars have gone there to die. The owner doesn’t welcome visitors either. The view on Google Maps is rather epic...

And the crazy thing is, they made a real ‘58 El Camino. Rarely seen. The ‘60 Ford “Ranchero” (last pic) is also not, ahem, the Ranchero Ford was actually selling that year.

The ‘60 Ford was cut down out of a wagon, most likely, as it is a fullsize Ford instead of a Falcon. ‘60 was the first year of the Falcon Ranchero replacing the Courier Ranchero.

Apart from the auto and 289 and extra 500 trim, mine is as base as it gets, and I like it that way.

We’ve actually got a 1963 30kVA generator with a Mileage Maker in it, with under a hundred hours. Onan. Been trying to get it set up to run my grandmother’s house, but my EE brother has had too much on his plate to finish the switchgear and phase conversion.

I’m in western NC, which has a tendency to be far-but-not-that-far away from everywhere. Four hours to the coast, four hours to Atlanta, four hours to Nashville, four hours to the capital of NC, 7+ hours to DC or Memphis...

Depending on where in Sask I’d drive to, it’s a long way or a *really* long way. A cousin of mine and my younger brother drove through there a couple of years back with a 6.5 NA diesel GMC panel truck, on the way down here from Alaska, more or less nonstop, switching off. Crazy kids. My dad used to think he was great at road trips for up to eight hour hauls at a time with no stops, but then he took a road trip with his friend, a Polish carpenter. Guy was an animal.
